About John G Smith

John G Smith’s career began as a jazz player, touring with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, John Dankworth and Roadside Picnic with whom he recorded several albums and performed all over Europe, including Montreux Jazz Festival and Ronnie Scott’s. West End credits as Musical Director include: Les Misérables (Queen’s), Bombay Dreams (Apollo), Fame (Shaftesbury), Daddy Cool (Shaftesbury), The Beautiful Game (Cambridge). West End credits as Associate Conductor include: Starlight Express (Apollo Victoria), Saturday Night Fever (Apollo Victoria), Jesus Christ Superstar (Lyceum), The Lion King (Lyceum). Conductor credits include: Damon Albarn’s Monkey, Journey to the West (O2 Greenwich) and many Katherine Jenkins concerts. Television Credits as Musical Director include: Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway (ITV). John also scored several cartoon series for Nickelodeon, France TV1 and the Disney Channel, including Lola and Virginia, Sandra the Fairytale Detective and Lucky Fred. Film credits include: solo piano for Last Chance Harvey, Passion Play. Other Credits: performing/recording with Michael Bublé, Joss Stone, Mica Paris, Mari Wilson, Darcey Bussell, Elaine Paige, The Nolans, Georgie Fame, Paul Carrack, Robbie Williams, Chris Moyles and N-Dubz and is a regular session player for composers including John Altman and Carl Davis. John played solo keyboard at the Paralympics Closing Ceremony, and in 2016 played Chopin for an appreciative 65,000 Take That fans at Hyde Park. His recently-formed group, the John G Smith Band has supported and backed Elaine Paige for her 2016 concert/recording project.
