1921 First trip to Europe, sailing on the Aquitania under Captain Sir James T. W. Charles, K.B.E., C.B., R.D., R.N.R., sailing first of all to Cherbourg, France and then onto Southampton, England. In London, Zelda's childhood friend Tallulah Bankhead introduces Zelda and Scott to the Marchioness of Milford Haven, on which Scott commented indignantly that "it was as near to royalty as we came." The Fitzgeralds were also entertained by Lady Randolph Churchill. They stayed at the Cecil Hotel in London. They moved on to France where they got thrown out of the St James and Albany hotel due to Zelda making a habit of lashing a smelly uncured goat skin to the elevator cage door to keep it open. They moved on to Italy, but didn't like it. Returned to London, and stayed at Claridge's. Finally, they took a train to Liverpool, England to sail back home, on the Celtic (somewhat disillusioned with Europe) on July 9.

Zelda and Scott visit Montgomery, (where Zelda hoped their child would be born), but left because of intense Alabama heat and humidity.
